It's finally time
for the Bedford Farmers' Market to return. On Tuesday, June 17, at the
Little League complex on Nashua Road, the market begins again with 18
farmers and vendors loaded with fresh herbs, potted and cut flowers,
early spring produce, cheeses, milk, wine, coffee, baked goods, fresh
fish and much more.
Promptly at 3 p.m.,
the "ringing of the bells" will occur, and the market will
officially open for its second season. The market will run every Tuesday
from 3 to 6 p.m., right off Route 101 on the right side of Nashua Road.
Look for the tents and come down to check out the local farmers.
Each of the 20
farmers and vendors from last year's market are returning. New vendors
include a former nun who makes renowned goat cheese, a grower of exotic
potted plants, a blueberry farmer and a well-known New Hampshire maker
of wonderful soaps. During its first season, organizers of the market
scheduled events like clowns, music, live animals and unexpected surprises
like produce give-aways.
Soon, relationships
between shoppers at the market and the farmers, bakers, vintners, and
other makers of the food people eat developed in a relaxed, open-air
atmosphere.
So on opening day,
come down to experience the market, and don't be surprised if there
are other delights there as well -- perhaps some live farm animals,
or some singers.
The market returns
on June 24. Then on Tuesday July 1, to celebrate Independence Day, the
market will feature several planned events.
A jazz band will
perform for the entire three hours. There will be free balloons in patriotic
colors and a kids' activity for making "liberty hats." Perhpas
a kiddie parade, perhaps our New Hampshire veterans will help us celebrate,
perhaps farm animals to pet, and who knows what else? Don't miss the
market this year.
It's open to everyone
-- the fresh air, the fresh fruits, and vegetables, the chatting with
your local farmers, the camaraderie of the visitors, the colors, the
scents, the samples. It's all there for you.
