Local residents
will have a new way of getting fruits and vegetables straight from farm
fields and orchards. The Bedford Farmers' Market will be open every
Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 7 p.m. beginning July 23 through Oct.
30. Its location is by Riley Field on Nashua Road.
The Farmers' Market
will be made up of local farmers bringing in their own fruits, vegetables,
herbs and other farm products. There will also be specialty food product
vendors selling items such as preserves, coffees, cheeses, baked goods,
and much more, all locally produced.
The opening on
July 23 is timed for peak summertime produce. Items will be fresh, and
guaranteed to be picked that day or the day before, and chilled overnight.
Shoppers will be able to enjoy fresher produce than that purchased in
any supermarket, and be able to chat with the local farmer who grew
that very produce.
Other products
will be available throughout the season and consumers will get to meet
the maker of most of those products. Bill Winn, from Fresh Joe Coffee,
is the market managerand will also be selling his freshly-roasted coffees.
To celebrate the
opening of the market, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30
p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Organizers of the
market have planned many special events throughout the market season.
Two rare UK Shetland
miniature ponies, courtesy of Lakeland Educational Farms, will be at
the market on July 23.
On Tuesday, July
30, Scott Kinney, the owner of Unwine'd, a restaurant and wine bar,
has volunteered to do a live cooking demonstration. On Aug. 13 from
4 to 6 p.m., children can meet Andi the Clown for face painting and
more.
Look for more special
events to occur throughout the market season. Organizers welcome ideas
for other events from the community.
